NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY
Since 1938, every first Friday in June is National Doughnut Day.  This was what I learned this week, in the school of AMERICA.  So me and miss Kacy {veganpastry.tumblr.com} decided to make apple cider doughnuts.  We also made some classic jellies.
I have a thing for vegan doughnuts…I’m not gonna lie to y’all.  Thing is, I don’t even know if I really even like doughnuts, but if it’s sweet, and vegan, I’ll put it in my cake hole!
Thus far, I have had vegan doughnuts from Seattle, all the way down the west coast, and out of the West Coast, the first stop, in Seattle, Mighty O Donuts wins HANDS DOWN.  The last time i was there, they had just came out with risen doughnuts, like the classic Long John, which no where in the West Coast has been able to offer.  They also have filled doughnuts, CREAM FILLED.
Then came The Big Apple.  There actually isn’t as many places for the vegan doughnuts as i thought there would be.  There is Dun-Well Doughnuts which is pretty new, and has some really interesting flavors, like Licorice and root beer.  Though a lot of die hard vegans here aren’t impressed by them.  I think they are pretty swell myself.  Though, I feel like for that classic doughnut, I came across the perfect specimen at a new little bakery on 10th and ave A in Manhattan.  It’s called Cowgirl’s Vegan Baking Inc.  Not to be confused with another bakery called Cowgirl bakery, which is NOT vegan.  Weird name choice, BUT amazing doughnuts!  I went in there just to browse, and wasn’t even getting that jazzed about what I saw, but then I just went for a chocolate glazed little guy, and MAN ON MAN.
I guess I lied. I LOVE DOUGHNUTS. THANK YOU AMERICA.
